BHP Billiton has cut another 95 jobs at its Mt Arthur open cut coal mine near Muswellbrook.

The latest round of job losses comes on top of the 163 cut earlier this month.
A spokesperson for the company said the 95 jobs would go from the production area mostly involving operational roles but some staff positions would also be lost.
In a statement from the company they say following our internal review to ensure the long-term sustainability of mining operations, we continue to assess opportunities and make any necessary adjustments. As a result, an additional 95 roles will be impacted at Mt Arthur Coal.
Affected employees will be consulted with over the next week, including with regards to redeployment opportunities, and will be provided with support services. Where appropriate, a redundancy package will also be provided.
The Fair Work Commission will hear the Construction Forestry Mining and Energy Union (CFMEU) claim against BHP Billiton’s Mt Arthur mine tomorrow.
The union claims the company has refused to offer 45 tradesmen – nine electricians and 36 fitters the chance to move into production jobs.
