At this point the details are sketchy but he should be attending the event if circumstances permit says publicity officer, Rosaleen James.
“We were very excited to find out he is coming to celebrate our centenary and it will also be his first function as the patron of Red Cross,” she said.
The Governor-General will be a part of the celebrations on Sunday, August 17 that are scheduled to commence at 11am and continue through till 3pm.
There will be plenty to see and do including viewing historical displays, the official opening, listening to the town band and the Singleton Singers, indulging in brunch or lunch and or course, cutting the birthday cake.
“We will have a number of food options including a barbecue, Devonshire tea, soups or quiches. There will be food available all day,” Rosaleen said.
“The winners of the colouring competition we ran in local schools will also be announced.”
Singleton Branch members are currently busy organising the day-long event which involves the construction of eight historical displays.
Event coordinator Susan Ginns says the displays will encapsulate work of the Red Cross over one hundred years on a local and international level.
“It will be a very educational display,” she said.
The committee would really like the Singleton community to come and view our displays and join in our birthday celebrations, she said.
