Yes its not perfect but when compared to so many countries where there is no free education or access is difficult then our system is one to be treasured. This week marked the 60th anniversary of the first Education Week celebrations and locally our schools offered a range of activities to note the event. A presentation night was held on Tuesday at the high school to award the many certificates in recognition of outstanding, teachers, school assistants, community volunteers and of course our students. It was a time for the community a cheer what is done in our schools.
Our paper also contains a story on a former Singleton student Chris Williams who never considered himself a serious school student.
But recently a research paper of his and his colleagues was published in one of the world’s leading medical journals The Lancet. A pretty good achievement for someone who never thought about going to university when he completed his schooling.
Proving education can change lives.
