To start with a pox on both their houses. That's our opinion of our two major political parties as the resumption this week of ICAC showed how corruption plagues both Labor and Liberal parties.

Now onto the important matters of how our coal resources are allocated. Changes announced this week by the state government flow directly from early ICAC investigations into the awarding of coal exploration licences in particular for our district the Glendonbrook and Doyles Creek licences.
ICAC found the awarding of those licences involved corrupt behaviour and made a long list of recommendations designed to stamp out those practices.
The government has responded and one measure is the establishment of a Coal Exploration Steering Group headed by a former senior financial bureaurcat Percy Allan.
There is no doubting Mr Allan’s impeccable record but how will he come to understand the land conflict issues.
It is our understanding he is a Sydney person through and through - although born in London.
Regional and rural areas have their own dynamics sadly too often misunderstood by city centric bureaucrats.
We wish Mr Allan all the best but please remember the bush aint the city.
