Tenders for the construction of the additional 54 parking spaces are advertised in today’s Singleton Argus and it is anticipated the expansion will commence before the end of the year.
Although Council has selected a design concept prepared by Facility Design Group (FDG) and the group will soon commence a geotechnical investigation of the site.
Singleton Council’s general manager, Lindy Hyam says the car park extension design has been resolved.
“It will provide for an additional 54 parking spaces and four new disability parking spaces for the facility on Civic Avenue. The new carpark will include landscaping, lighting and a new entry and exit point,” she said.
“Council has selected a design concept for the $5.9 million Singleton Gym & Swim Extension and Upgrade, prepared by Facility Design Group (FDG), and detailed design work is now underway. The design is based on the Singleton Gym & Swim Master Plan adopted by Council in 2013. The geotechnical investigation is due to commence on site shortly and will be undertaken by FDG.”
Mrs Hyam says before the detailed plans are finalised the community and users of the Gym & Swim will be consulted.
“This consultation will include face-to-face information and feedback sessions as well as displaying the designs in the foyer of the Gym & Swim, in Council’s Customer Service Centre and on Council’s website. Details will be advised once dates are confirmed but it is anticipated this will be in October,” she said.
“Feedback from the consultation period will be considered in the finalisation of the detailed design. The design will be endorsed by Council and tender documentation prepared for construction of the project. Construction is expected to start in 2015.
“The project requires lodgement of a development application and this process will get underway in the coming months.”
Happy with the way the plans are progressing she says they incorporate all the features of the original Masterplan including: the extension of the existing gym facilities; the demolition of the existing spa, sauna and wading pool and replacement with a spin studio and a new spa; construction of a new hydrotherapy/program pool and removing the existing creche and replacing it with a new one.
