In fact those artists and photographers wanting to enter the 142nd Singleton Show arts competition only have two weeks left to prepare their entries.
The 2013 Fine Arts winner Maureen Hamilton (pictured) is encouraging those of all ages to bring out their brushes and get started on their masterpieces.
Maureen grew up knowing she always wanted to be an artist and study at art school one day.
Originally born in Scotland, Maureen came to Australia in 1959 and studied art at Singleton TAFE for many years.
With Dorothy Wishney as her teacher and mentor, Maureen ignited her love for art and creativity.
“Dorothy encouraged us to use different forms of media and widened our knowledge of art”, she says.
Maureen believes it was an amazing course and still meets with other artists from the course every month.
“The art allows us to maintain our abilities and learn from each other’s work” she said.
Maureen says she simply cannot imagine a world without art and creative people.
To her surprise, Maureen won first place at last year’s Singleton Show with her painting Aftershock.
Specialising in abstract art, Aftershock is an abstract painting that is suggestive of an earthquake.
Maureen says she entered the 2013 show after encouragement from her long-time friend and fellow artist Fay Gray.
For those thinking of entering into the art show this year, Maureen says to go for it!
“I definitely encourage as many people of all ages to enter; it really is a great opportunity”.
To enter, bring your entry forms, fees and ready to hang artworks to the Singleton show ground on Tuesday September 16 between 10am and 4pm.
Entry forms for the fine arts category are available from That Little Art Place at 2/96 John Street Singleton, Inkspot and the Singleton Photo Centre.
