The day aims to build the skills and capabilities of the workforce in responding to scenarios or any real life situations in first aid or fire.
Communications Manager at Liddell Power Station, Rob Cooper, believes the day is extremely important and beneficial for all employees.
“The goal is to provide an opportunity for the first aid, fire, and safety teams from each company across NSW to practice their skills in realistic scenarios”, said Mr Cooper.
“It’s part of the employee’s training, and also offers a bit of friendly rivalry between the companies.
The whole organisation comes together to support the day and everyone really sees the value in it”, he said.
The events on the day included fire fighting, first aid training, safety theory tests, and risk assessment challenges.
The challenges allow the teams to practice their skills and identify their strengths and weaknesses in what will be realistic, industry specific scenarios, thus gaining more confidence and experience.
“It is meant to be a fun day, but also a serious day”, Liddell Human Resources manager Michelle Douglas said.
The day is always a big success, and the enthusiasm of the employees to put their hand up to be a part of the day is great”, she says.
There was a massive local win on the day, with Macquarie Generation’s Jannelle Chapman winning the individual first aid event.
Overall, local team Macquarie Generation came second to Eraring Power Station (Origin Energy), a great success for the Hunter.
Macquarie Generation also made a valuable donation to the Westpac Rescue Helicopter Service this year.
The donation was for $105,000 and was the first time the Westpac Helicopter has made an appearance at the event.
