Their campaign to date has not been
successful but with a spate of recent crimes in the district the call for a round-the-clock service has been renewed.
One local resident was so incensed by the fact he could not report a crime at his local police station that he immediately came and visited the Argus to report his frustration.
In response the Hunter Valley Local Area Commander Superintendent Craig Jackson said he understood the resident’s frustration when he could not talk directly to a member of the force but the police arrived within minutes of the call being put through.
We all appreciate that in most instances its
far better the police are out on the beat
preventing crime and making their presence felt in the district.
Perhaps as the first move towards allaying community concerns during business hours it would be better if the station was manned so the public could speak directly to someone rather than deal with an intercom.
And speaking about the intercom perhaps it could be upgraded so those who have to use it to contact police are not cut-off mid sentence.
