Co-organisers Sam Morgan and Karen Patton, family members, friends and the “man of the hour”, Jacob Moore, were delighted with the fantastic response to the inaugural A Day for Jacob.
The event raised much-needed funds for the 13-year-old’s ongoing treatment for his battle with cancer over the next 12 to 18 months.
People were also invited to wear lime green and purple on the day to show their support.
“We can’t put a finger on the final number, crowd wise, but it was a huge turnout,” Mrs Morgan said.
“So far, we’ve raised about $20,000.
“It was a perfect day, people just loved it.
“We’re thinking of making it an annual fundraising event – and getting Jacob to pick a different charity each year.”
Mrs Morgan said she couldn’t believe the amount of assistance Team Jacob received to put the event together.
“I’d like to express my gratitude to Mark Lancaster (Lancaster Holden) and Paul Levick (Singleton Sound Solutions); they were a massive help,” she told The Argus.
“But, the biggest thanks go to ‘Bucky’ from Townsville.
“In the past, he’s donated heaps of things to sell and even organised a ‘hot lap’ at the Townsville 500 to be auctioned off.
“On Sunday, he gave us a four-day family pass to Bathurst, which includes grandstand seating, a visit to the pits, and a ‘meet and greet’ with drivers Fabian Coulthard and Jason Bright.
“Jacob also received a mini racing helmet, made in honour of the late Jason Richards.
“We can’t thank Bucky enough; he’s an amazing man.
“In fact, everyone’s adopted him,” she added with a laugh.
“Jacob’s parents, Heidi and Nigel, are blown away by what he’s done.”
