In a gathering that was the first of its kind in town, about 50 local residents attended to celebrate Onam, an ancient Indian festival celebrated in the south of the country.
The get-together involved games, music, dance, food and various customs, and dressed in traditional Indian costume.
Festival organiser Ratheesh M Ramakrishnan said the night helped bring the Indian community together, with many attendees not knowing one another before the night.
“It was just a good platform to get along, meet people and get to know each other,” he said.
“Of course we are all Australian, but it is still important to keep traditions and pass on culture.”
Mr Ramakrishnan said they would look at continuing the festival in the future, and extended a welcome to anybody who would like to be involved.
