The Lions Club of Singleton, Singleton Lioness Club and Rotary Club of Singleton recently handed over a total of $4000, which will go towards the 18-strong squad’s uniforms and transportation.
Team Singleton will compete in swimming and track and field events against athletes from 30 countries between December 6 and 11.
It is the first time the Games are taking place in the Southern Hemisphere with 13 Australian cities, including Singleton, being represented.
“We’re really appreciative of the support from Lions Club of Singleton ($2000), Singleton Lioness Club ($1000) and Rotary Club of Singleton ($1000),” swim coach Melisa Geale said.
“And, we’d like to thank each of the presidents Mick McCrone (Lions), Gai Scoles (Lioness) and Warren Deaves (Rotary).
“It [the donations] will help us tremendously.
“We also hosted a barbecue fundraiser at Bunnings on Sunday.
“Several businesses – such as Valley Hydraulic Services, Waterways of Singleton, Ray White Real Estate and Highway Services – got behind it.
“They contributed towards the food, drink, ice and much more.
“It’s great to see the community coming on board.”
