Bagnall, the equal leader – with Michael Storey – at the mid-way mark of the tournament, is within striking distance of a unique milestone.
And, the nine-time champion has Roger Worms in his sights.
“Winning a 10th crown would be awesome,” Bagnall admitted.
“Roger [Worms] currently holds the club record with 12 titles.
“So, I’m closing in.
“But, I’m not putting any undue pressure on myself.
“It’s just another game of golf to me.
“I don’t take it too seriously, however it’s nice to win.”
Bagnall shot 68 on the opening day and followed it up with a 76, while Storey fired in a pair of 72s.
Michael Kirkpatrick sits a further stroke behind after carding 73 and 72.
“It’s pretty tight this year,” Bagnall admitted.
“I played terrific on Saturday but had no form on the Sunday.
“However, I managed to hold on.
“It’s just a matter of minimising mistakes this weekend.
“Also, luck plays a role.
“You don’t win nine championships without it.”
Bagnall lifted his first trophy in 1996 at the age of 21.
His second eluded him for many years but he’s made up for it in recent times – capturing eight of the past 10 tournaments.
So, what score will secure the title in 2014?
“An average of two over par should get a win,” Bagnall said.
“The course will be a bit tougher over the next couple of days.
“Someone will need to play better than their handicap to prevail.”
