The next fundraising event is the Melbourne Cup luncheon at Singleton Diggers, York Street.
And, organisers cannot believe the support it is receiving from the local business community.
“Now all we need is to get as many bums on seats as possible,” one of the event’s organisers, Di Sneddon, said.
Tickets for the event are on sale now at the York Street club and cost $50. The price includes canapés and champagne on arrival, music from Andrea Kowald and crew, lufashions in the field, a delicious lunch, blind wine tasting competition, candle display by One-O-One, lots of competitions, a secret auction and, of course, all the Melbourne Cup action on two big screens in the club’s function centre.
Proceeds from the event go to the netball clubhouse campaign, which is well on track for construction to begin within the next few months.
“We have gained some grant money and wonderful support from Singleton Council and already have funds from our own account dedicated to building the new clubhouse,” Sneddon said.
“But, we are going to be quite a few thousand dollars short so fundraising will be ongoing.
“This event is an opportunity for the wider community to support our sport and we are really hoping for a strong roll up.”
The existing clubhouse at the Rose Point Netball Complex was built in the 1970s and, while it met requirements then, the sport has now outgrown the building.
“We only have four ladies toilets and one men’s and when we have up to 2500 people at the courts during the winter competition, it just isn’t enough,” Sneddon said.
“Our new facility will feature much-improved basic facilities such as the toilets and canteen but it is the meeting rooms that are a really exciting component of the plans.
“It means we will be able to host high level coaching, umpiring, sports administration and first aid courses in state-of-the-art facilities not just for netball but for other sports as well.”
Tickets for the Melbourne Cup luncheon must be purchased by October 29. Tables of eight or individual tickets can be purchased.
