Under-13
THE under-13 age group has been bolstered with a number of new registrations, allowing for a strong six-team competition.
It was a great start to the
season with the two Glendon sides going head-to-head on Cook 1 while the two JPC outfits faced off at Cook 2.
PCH took on Valley at Cook 4 and it was terrific to see so many players from last year’s under-10s progressing through to the older age group.
On Cook 1, Glendon Gold won the toss and sent Glendon Green into bat.
Glendon Green finished on the tremendous score of 3-96 (quotient 32) with Joel Croucher and Thomas Druery both excelling and retiring on 25.
The wicket-takers for Glendon Gold were Aaron Gray, Isaac Adler and Luke Swinton.
Glendon Gold finished on 7-40 (quotient 5.7) and did a great job in batting out the full 20 overs.
James Nichols (eight) and Cabe Barrett (seven) were the top scorers.
All of the Glendon Green bowlers did well with five players taking a wicket each along with two run outs.
Beau Parnell snared a wicket and a great catch and Jesse Bates was outstanding in the field and also bowled well.
On Cook 2, it was JPC Black who won the toss and they also chose to send the opposition into bat.
JPC Gold batted well and made a good score of 6-75 after their 20 overs (quotient 12.5).
Ebony Butler (22) and Taylah Knight (17 not out) showed the way with the bat in what were great knocks to start the season.
Pick of the bowlers for JPC Black were Harry Moore (2-6) and Andrew Knox (1-1).
Brock Jurkans also bowled well taking 1 for 5 in his first game and Alexina Rumming was great in the field.
JPC Black finished on 5-46 (quotient 9.2) and also did a great job in batting out the full 20 overs.
Blake Barber batted really well (15 not out) and recorded his highest ever score.
Kye Dann provided good support and Mitchell Pike also batted well and remained not out.
Tom Cramp (2-1) was the leading wicket-taker for JPC Gold with Taylah Knight, Ebony Butler and Tristin Pitcher each taking a scalp.
At Cook 4, it was Valley who won the toss and they also gave the opposition first use of the wicket.
PCH took full advantage and scored 1-70.
Mitch Cullen was on the front page of The Argus that day and he made sure he stayed in the news with a great knock of 21 not out.
Cody Rowe also batted well (14) along with Darby Matthews who did a great job coming up from the under-10s and batting at No 3.
Aiden Bagnall (1-4) was the wicket-taker for Valley with a great caught and bowled and Kayden Forbes also bowled well (0-3).
Valley made 6-34 in the chase and, although falling short, there were some very positive signs for the young team.
Baxter Newberry and Bailey Smith were rock solid and batted well and occupied the crease for long periods.
All of the PCH bowlers kept it tight but it was spin king Charlie Gibson (2-2) who did the most damage.
Jack Shade (1-0), Darby Matthews (1-2) and Jaymon Matthews (two maidens) returned great figures.
It was interesting to see all teams that won the toss in week one sent the opposition into bat.
At the end of the day though, the sides batting first won every game.
A big thanks to the curators who provided great wickets
for the kids to play on and congratulations to all the teams on a great start to the new season.
We look forward to some exciting cricket in the weeks to come and also to the start of the T20 Blast for the under-11s this week.
There will be seven games of junior cricket this afternoon (4.30pm start) at Cook Park, stretching from Cook 1 right through to the railway line.
The barbecue will be running hot at the AFL Clubhouse canteen, so all are welcome to come down and enjoy a great afternoon of junior cricket.
