Participating in a six-day, two-wheel journey through rural NSW towns in support of Aussie kids in need, this feel-good boutique event will see 30 riders take to dirt and forestry tracks, gravel back roads and country by-roads on a bighearted rollicking ride.
It starts and concludes in Newcastle.
Ron, who has been riding motorcycles all his life, is a long-time postie bike enthusiast, riding them recreationally for many years.
Given the pre-requisite for this new event is owning a standard Honda CT110 Postie Bike, he is ensuring his bike, which he purchased at auction, is ready for the challenge.
“I bought the postie bike back in 2006 and have ridden it quite a bit since,” he said.
“I have entered other charity riding events in the past and often ride it down to the shops on the weekend.
“It’s a sturdy bike and I’m not anticipating I will need to do much preparation before the Variety Postie Dash, perhaps just changing the oil and checking the tyres.”
This event is not a race or a rally, but rather a group of adventure-seeking folk exploring isolated areas of NSW for a worthy cause,Ron’s qualification for the Variety Postie Dash is simply being over 18 and having a spirit for adventure.
Like his fellow riders however, he is looking forward to helping Aussie kids in need.
“I enjoy going on Postie Bike adventures, especially with a large group of identically-matched machines,” he said.
“It’s also great meeting new people.
“This event has the added incentive of helping to raise money for Variety, a cause I strongly support.”
Ron’s philanthropic efforts are evident when looking at the mileage on his postie bike, having taken part in seven fundraising postie bike adventures across six states and raising approximately $5000 for various charities.
But, he has a soft spot for Variety.
Ron’s contested Variety’s four-wheel motoring adventure, The Bash in Newcastle, an impressive five times.
“I’m constantly inspired by Variety’s work and especially with The Bash,” he said.
“It blows me away to be able to witness first-hand the life-changing impact they make.”
Wearing his high-viz vest and helmet with pride, the philanthropic Postie Bike rider is looking forward to booting his kickstand for the circuitous adventure.
The Dash will depart on Sunday, November 2, from Customs House car park in Newcastle, following a pre-departure breakfast at 7.30am.
The group takes in some of NSW’s most stunning sceneries en route, visiting rural communities including Gloucester, Wingham, Nowendoc, Walcha, Manilla, Spring Ridge, Quirindi, Sandy Hollow and Scone.
To give riders a true Postie Dash experience, the group will also have a crate strapped to the back for the essentials and required to wear full safety gear including high-viz vest, helmet, protective shoes and clothing.
