The Darlington Darlings, made up of members from the Darlington brigade, will walk the showground in their uniforms to raise money for the Cancer Council.
“The RFS brigade and its family members are affected by cancer directly and indirectly and we decided to push for a way to give back to those people,” Darlington crew member Liz Algie said.
Some of the brigade members will take on the challenge of completing 20 laps of the Singleton Showground oval in their full firefighting equipment including their Compressed Air Breathing Apparatus (CABA) to raise even more money.
“We’re hoping to get more sponsors for the boys who will tackle the challenge on Saturday, it won’t be that easy,” Liz said.
The Darlington brigade will also bring one of its fire trucks and have activities running during the day for kids and the public.
The RFS’ new mascot Fluffy will also be doing laps of the oval and saying “hello” to the kiddies.
“This is our first year entering a Darlington brigade team and our goal for the Relay for Life is to raise $2000 so we’ll continue to fundraise on the day to make sure we get there,” Liz said.
The event begins at 4pm tomorrow at the Singleton Showground and continues throughout the night, finishing with the closing ceremony at 9am on Sunday.
