But, he had to face some anxious moments.
Bagnall’s final round front nine of 32 looked as if it would easily lead to
victory.
However, double bogies on the 16th and 17th holes saw him teeing off at the 18th with a one stroke advantage.
After missing the green, he chipped and putted to save his par to win the crown by the narrowest of margins.
Runner-up to Bagnall was former champion Mick Kirkpatrick, who played a very consistent tournament.
The B grade champion is Shane Duggan.
He totally dominated his section to win by 13 strokes from runner-up
play-off winner Jacob Carey.
Lachlan McWilliams is this year’s C grade champion.
His triumph was the talk of the club at the completion of the day.
At age 13, and with only a year of
golfing experience under his belt, McWilliams appears to have a big future.
His winning margin was a phenomenal 21 shots.
Second place was taken out by Greig Delaney.
The third round of the 2014 Singleton Golf Club Championships teed off last Saturday in hot conditions.
The course was presented in immaculate condition by greenkeeper Warren Purkiss and the many club volunteers.
Bob Peters returned a magnificent scratch score of 70 to give him a nett of 61 and A grade’s top prize.
This was the first time he has equalled his age and had it not been for a bogey on the final hole would have broken the mark.
Runner-up was Mark Newman with a 71 nett 65.
A scratch score of 69 from Glen Marcheff would be the day’s low score and have him move four strokes closer to the lead.
Congratulations also go to Mick Williams for another hole-in-one.
This came at the second; and
sponsors Terry Thompson and Steve Moore are once again thanked for their generous support of the club.
Low scores continued through into B grade.
Jacob Carey’s fine scratch score of 76 gave a net result of 63.
He was victorious on a countback from Robert Morrissey.
McWilliams continued his assault on the C grade competition.
His nett 64 was just good enough to take out first place from Alan Burns on 65.
Burns’ tee shot from the 14th was voted by many as the shot of the tournament.
It landed a mere three metres from the hole and lipped out for a hole-in-one … on the seventh green.
Unseasonal heat greeted all players for the fourth round and the scores were much more conservative.
The day’s A grade competition was won by Kirkpatrick with a solid 73 nett 67.
He won by one stroke from Peters on 68.
Andrew Redmond fired a nett 67 for a one shot B grade victory over Frank Palmowski.
In C grade, a countback had Mitchell Pease beating home Delaney.
Both players had a net score of 67.
That left the lady scorers to compile the figures so the year’s winners could be announced.
“Championship sponsors Savannah Wines, TJS Services and Kirkwoods are to be thanked for their sponsorship and financial support,” pro Les Bennett said.
“Without this support our
tournament may not have been the success it was.
“A very big thank you goes out to the other sponsors, greenkeepers, the board of directors, volunteer members, club captain and vice-captain, the lady scorers and all club staff who
contributed to the successful running of the event.”
Tomorrow, the club is hosting the Shed 33 Monthly Mug.
