The money was raised from a charity raffle that was drawn at the Mine Workers Christmas Luncheon and is an annual tradition for the Mineworkers.
“Each year we select a different beneficiary,” Singleton Retired Mineworkers president Ian Paget said.
“In 2014 we wanted to help the netball girls achieve their dream of a new clubhouse and facilities.
“Our members are quite active and our aim is to give back to the community when we can.”
Singleton Netball Association will put the money towards their major fundraising campaign to build a new clubhouse on the existing site at Rose Point Park.
It involves the demolition of the current building, which will be replaced with much larger facilities that incorporate improved toilet facilities, meeting rooms, canteen and storage areas.
“At the moment most of our equipment is being stored in the garages of the homes of our executive, which is just impossible and impractical,” Gail Solman said.
The other huge limitation facing netball is that Singleton is unable to offer accredited courses in town because of the need to have courts next to a netball clubhouse able to accommodate a dozen people under cover.
“We are consistently fundraising and a donation like this makes us that little bit closer to achieving our goal,” Solman said.
“We appreciate all the help we can get.”
