This week, the proceeds from recent chocolate sales in council’s Administration Centre and Works Depot were used to buy $300 worth of toys and $150 worth of non-perishable food for the Singleton Mayoral Christmas Tree Appeal.
The appeal, launched by mayor John Martin earlier in the month, already boasts hundreds of dollars of toys and food, which have been placed under the four trees located at council’s Customer Service Centre, Singleton Library, Singleton Visitor Information and Enterprise Centre and Colleen Gale Children’s Services.
The goods are being collected by The Salvation Army who will be distributing hampers to local families in partnership with Vinnie’s and the Singleton Neighbourhood Centre.
The appeal ends on Friday.
Cr Martin says it’s not the only charity council staff have supported throughout the year, raising money at morning tea events and through chocolate sales for Australia’s Biggest Morning Tea, Singleton Relay For Life, Hunter Medical Research Institute, RSPCA Cupcake Day, Movember, Westpac Rescue Helicopter Service and Jeans for Genes Day.
“I’m proud that as a council we can facilitate small events and appeals such as this one to help those in need,” he says.
“I am always overwhelmed by the generosity of our community and their support for the Singleton Mayoral Christmas Tree Appeal.
“Thank you to everyone who has got involved in some way.
“I wish our community a safe and happy holiday season.”
