“I’m humbled to receive this award and want to give back to where I grew up,” she said at the Australia Day ceremony.
Annie gave special thanks to her family for their guidance, support and ability to put up with her bossiness.
The former St Catherine’s Catholic College leader had a whirlwind year in 2014, juggling her physiotherapy studies with volunteering and committee work.
She also held active positions with the National Rural Health Student Network, Services for Australia Rural and Remote Allied Health advisory board and was president of the Newcastle University group BREAATHE.
These organisations are all about improving access and the availability of vital health services outside of the metro areas.
Locally, she is a member of the Singleton Cancer Appeal Committee, Northern Agricultural Association and the Singleton Beef and Land Management Group.
Through her work with the Agricultural Society Council and Rural Women’s Connect, Annie has represented the Hunter region and served as a role model to youth through the YouthinAg program and spoken at many events about rural women’s needs.
The 21-year-old said volunteering was something she enjoyed doing because of the many life skills you learn through it.
For the future one of her aspirations is to work with Royal Flying Doctor service.
