The demonstration, which will be organised by Mines Rescue in conjunction with the Westpac Rescue Helicopter Service, will highlight the roles and interactions of various emergency services in the event of a mine site accident.

It will take place adjacent to the Hunter Mining Show at Singleton Council’s Civic Centre, right in the heart of Singleton.

According to Mines Rescue’s regulation and compliance general manager Matthew Fellowes, the demonstration will provide a highly-realistic response to a mine emergency.

“We will simulate an on-site mine accident, involving heavy machinery,” he said. 

“This will demonstrate the entire process, from the initial onsite response from brigadesmen or the site First Aid teams and the calling in of other emergency services, including the ambulance.

“The Westpac Rescue Helicopter will fly in, with doctors and paramedics to treat and stabilise the patients, before they are flown away to hospital for emergency treatment.

“The demonstration will highlight the rapid response capability provided at Hunter Valley mines in the rare event of a serious accident – and the resources and expertise that are quickly brought in by emergency services.

“At Mines Rescue, we work very closely with the site emergency response teams and other emergency service providers. 

“We are also a proud sponsor of the Westpac Rescue Helicopter Service.”

Mr Fellowes said that throughout the show, Mines Rescue would be providing various talks and demonstrations of the services it offers to the industry.

“This includes talks with Beaconsfield Mine survivor Brant Webb 

on the importance of safety and emergency response, tours of our Hunter Valley Mines Rescue station, CPR demonstrations from our trade stall, and expert talks on First Aid and the Incident Command and Control System,” he said.

“The show will give us a unique opportunity to demonstrate our services and capabilities to the entire Hunter Valley community.”
