The junior member faced strong competition at the Commonwealth and National Women’s International Shooting Sports Federation (ISSF) Trap Championships – and left the event with her head held high.
The championships encompassed the disciplines of double trap, skeet and trap, for both men and women.
Most of the participants attended the event to vie for the prize of being crowned national champion in their respective shooting arenas.
For Pearce, she targeted the trap discipline.
The Singleton youngster contested the Commonwealth and National titles against several past Olympic medallists and all the women who made an appearance at last year’s Commonwealth Games including the gold medal winner Laetisha Scanlan.
In the first event, Pearce shot scores of 16/25, 20/25 and 22/25 for a total score of 58/75.
She missed the cut-off point for the final by three targets.
On day two, Pearce registered scores of 20/25, 22/25 and 20/25 for a total of 62/75.
She was beaten out of sixth spot in the final by Commonwealth gold medallist Scanlan, who fired a score of 63/75.
Scanlan went on to win the gold medal shoot-off.
With two very consistent scores over both days, Pearce was awarded the Junior Women’s ISSF Trap Championships High Gun with a total score of 120/150.
She beat the next competitor in her category – all juniors are 21 years and younger – by six targets.
Pearce was presented with the Royal Blue sash and the Suzy Balogh Trophy.
Balogh clinched the gold medal at the 2004 Olympics Games.
So, the future looks bright for Pearce.
