Mr Harrod has been treasurer of the centre for 19 years – and has made sure the important social service has always been in the black.
Coming from a background as chief clerk at a mine, accounting for money has been a talent of his and it was easy for him to bring his skills to the community organisation.
Mr Harrod also helped out the Singleton Bowling Club for more than 30 years as their treasurer.
“He puts his heart and soul into his work,” senior citizens president Bill Oliver said.
Mr Harrod said he has kept going in the position because of the many positive people encouraging him and his wife Judy.
He’s seen many changes during his time as treasurer and made many friends through the centre, more than he can count in a few minutes.
When Mr Harrod joined the centre, now Singleton mayor John Martin was in control of the finances.
He told Mr Harrod “you’ve got the job”.
