This is the motivation behind the grand opening of the Jerrys Plains School of Arts hall and recreational area on Saturday at 2pm.
It will be followed by a sumptuous afternoon tea and there will be plenty of activities for the kids.
Organiser Judy Hadley says they want to encourage people to use the facilities.
“The community has changed over the years, everyone is so busy and people have stopped getting together,” she explains.
“We want to re-build that community spirit.”
The redevelopment of Jerrys Plain recreation ground is now finished and was a Singleton Council project funded under a voluntary planning agreement with Ravensworth Operations.
The total cost of the project was $104,762 and included:
Upgrade and refurbishment of old toilets to new disabled unisex;
Disabled ramp to access toilets, tennis court, multi-court, barbecue area and clubhouse;
Laying of turf around the job site;
Painting of the new fit out of toilets and clubhouse;
New foundations of both tennis courts which consisted of pouring a 125mm thick slab over both courts;
New reseal of carpark and bollards were installed;
Retaining wall was built around the perimeter edge of courts;
And a new solar light over playground was installed.
Mrs Hadley says although the hall was completed in 2004, it was never officially opened so they decided to combine the two events.
