The new head of the Baptist church says the couple did not plan on moving here, it’s just how things worked out.
“It’s a god thing,” Fara explains.
“We had actually just installed solar panels on our house and were very happy living in Brisbane,” he says.
Andrew was the associate Pastor at the North Pine Baptist church at Murrumba Downs, and the couple had been members of the church for their entire married life – 18 years.
It was during this time he changed his profession from a Police Officer to a Pastor.
Surprisingly, he says it is a calling that can be at times, more stressful than policing.
“When I was serving in the police force, unlike a lot of other people I could take the uniform off, go home and leave it behind,” Andrew says.
“But when you walk alongside someone, developing a relationship and sharing their journey you don’t have that distance, it’s not a nine- to-five job.
“In the first few weeks we were here and I was still finding my feet, we lost the oldest and youngest member of our church.”
Although they are enjoying the Hunter Valley, and have been acting like tourists when the opportunities arise, the compassionate couple has noticed a lot of “brokenness” in the community.
And the couple is committed to rectifying this.
Their door is always open as they know there is a lot of work to do.
To introduce the Allinson family to the wider community the Singleton Baptist Church is hosting an Easter Worship Service in the Park.
Similar in nature their popular annual Christmas celebrations it will take place at 10am on Sunday at Allan Bull Reserve.
It is a family-friendly Easter Service including children’s activities followed by a free sausage sizzle and Easter egg hunt.
Bring some chairs or a picnic blanket and “join our family as we celebrate God’s great love for us”.
