THE Imperial Hotel Roosters First Division went into battle with a fired up Nelson Bay in the second semi final on Saturday, August 27 at No.1 Sportsground.
In what was a perfect day for footy the boys were keen to prove a point and be the first side into the Grand Final.
1st DIVISION
The Nelson Bay Marlins stunned the Roosters by kicking the first three goals of the game.
Coach Tim Hare made changes to the match ups and the boys got their game plan straight. Paul Chandler’s defensive efforts got the boys fired up and we dominated the remainder of the first term.
Josh Bridge was a stand-out, giving the crowd a real treat with some fantastic overhead marking and goal kicking.
The second and third quarters were again completely dominated by the Roosters.
Nelson Bay had no answers to stem the tide.
Big Tom Colleary led the way with a magnificent effort in the ruck.
His ‘Best on Ground’ performance in both the ruck and around the ground was outstanding.
He was well supported by some hard work from Luke “Elmo” Davis, Dick Wilkes, Vahid Roser and Gabe Smith.
With some tired bodies going into the final term, Josh Childs came on with fresh legs in the ruck to give the big Irishman a break.
He did an outstanding job in both the ruck department and in front of goals.
Alex Mitchell continued running all day and was once again unstoppable.
Sean Moffatt, Jacob Walmsley and Jarryd Ingram provided alternate options up front all game and did not disappoint.
Each finished with three goals.
Nelson Bay hit back with the last few goals of the match but the game was well and truly over.
The focus is now on the Grand Final at Newcastle No. 1 Sportsground on September 8th. We will be taking on the winner of this weeks Nelson Bay v Wyong game.
Please ensure all train on squad members are at training both Tuesday and Thursday nights to ensure we are prepared for the big one.
