Each of the 54 pupils at the small Singleton district school made a poppy and K-1 teacher Jill Purvis created a small wreath with their work.

She and her husband Keith will be laying the wreath at Gallipoli during their visit to the tragic battlefield on April 26.

The couple, who live at Goorangoola, is visiting Gallipoli on a cruise ship and will be just offshore for the dawn service on Anzac Day.

“But we are able to visit the site the following day and that’s when I will be placing the wreath made by the students,” Mrs Purvis said.

“Making the poppies and wreath during our craft sessions mean the students felt they were personally involved in the Anzac centenary commemorations.

“I chose this tribute because I could lay it flat in my luggage.”

Many of the students will be thinking about their poppies as they join other local pupils during Singleton’s Anzac Day march on Saturday. 

The Dawn Service starts at 4.45am on the Civic Green on Queen Street.

The Anzac march then begins from Hunter Street to the Civic Green at 10.30am before the main service proceeds at 11am.

There will not be a public dawn service at Lone Pine Barracks.
