The Mechanics Institute’s extensive records from all over the Hunter Valley will be open to the public.
“This building has a lot of history in it, it was even the venue for the first ever Singleton Returned Service League meeting,” George Standen said.
“If anyone has an ancestor or believe they have one who went to WWI, they’re welcome to come down and have a look,” Lyn MacBain said.
“If they’re connected to Singleton we should be able to find them and if we can’t we’ll get the Australian War Records to check it out for them.”
The historians opened up last Anzac Day and were surprised by the response from the public and even had some locals donate important documents for their archives.
They will move into the common room, after it got a bit stuffy in the records room last year.
