Match details are sketchy this week as your scribe was on assignment in Canberra visiting the War Memorial and if you haven’t been there for some time, make it a priority given the magnificent exhibitions currently on display.
With ANZAC Day upon us on Saturday it is also a poignant time to reflect on all those who served and suffered in all conflicts, we salute you.
It will be a big weekend of rugby league with five NRL games on Saturday and the Greyhounds on the road in four grades to engage Muswellbrook Rams on Sunday.
The Bradken Group First Grade side couldn’t repeat their first round performance against the visiting Denman Devils losing 36 – 10 after trailing 16 – nil at halftime.
The Devils have hit the ground running to start the year and the Dog’s had little answer.
Singleton’s discipline from all reports was poor and will need to be addressed as referees crack down on poor behaviour.
The return of Luke Gardner and Blake Andrews to the team was pleasing but clearly there is still work to do.
The Rams are coming off a narrow 10 - 4 loss to Scone which is good form after they too were thumped 36 – 8 by Denman in Round 1.
It will be in an important game as the Ram’s are yet to open their account and will be desperate for the points.
The Remondis Group Reggies continue their great form with an authoritative 26 – 6 victory over Denman.
Coaches Millgate and Rinkin would have been pleased with the defensive effort given the Devils put 40 points on Muswellbrook in Round 1.
On paper the Dog’s look too strong but for whatever reason have struggled against the Ram’s in recent years. An upset is possible if the Greyhounds to come to the game in good shape (hint).
The Singleton Tyre Centre Under 18’s played the Colts for the second time in as many weeks due to the vagaries of the draw.
The venue was different but the result was the same with the young hounds again going down narrowly 18 – 14 to Greta-Branxton.
The 0 – 2 start is not ideal but it is only a matter of time before a win is forthcoming in this small but incredibly close competition. Muswellbrook defeated Scone last week so it will be no easy assignment.
The Entire Concrete Ladies Leaguetag side cruised to an effortless 54 - nil over Denman.
The teams attack looks sharp and defence sound but it will need to be against the Muswellbrook girls who again look a top 2 contender this year.
Muswellbrook were beaten 30 – 8 by the brilliant Scone side last week and will be smarting, watch out girls.
