Every retail store in Singleton, including those in George Street and the Heights shopping centre, has the opportunity to hold their own sale that will be marketed across the Upper Hunter as a collaborative affair.
There are plenty of incentives for retailers and customers to get involved.
With a carnival theme, The Singleton Argus is encouraging retailers to decorate their stores and for staff to dress to the theme with a prize for the best dressed store winning a $500 advertising package with The Argus.
Customers who spend $20 in any one transaction (Lotto and lottery tickets excluded) also have the chance to win one of five $100 vouchers to be spent in Singleton’s retail centres.
In addition, customers can still take advantage of Singleton Council’s ongoing Shop and Win promotion and go in the draw to win a massive $4000 travel voucher at LaCity Travel just by spending $20 in any of the participating Shop and Win stores.
Monthly bonus draws give participants even more chances to win.
The sale marks the halfway mark in construction of the $11.2 million revitalisation of the Singleton town centre.
Work has been completed in Stages 1 and 4, with Stages 2 and 5 currently under way.
The project is being funded by a $9 million grant from the NSW Government under the Resources for Regions program with a $2 million contribution from Singleton Council and $200,000 from Roads and Maritime Services.
Singleton Council general manager Lindy Hyam says Halfway in May is a day of celebration and also an opportunity for local businesses to see the benefits the project will deliver for Singleton.
“The Town Centre Revitalisation Project is the largest single capital works project in this council’s history,” she says.
“We’re very pleased with progress to date and, while there have been challenges, we can’t wait to show the broader Upper Hunter community our fresh, modern and competitive retail and dining precinct.”
The Singleton Argus manager Vicki Caelli says she is looking forward to a great day for retail in town.
“We genuinely hope the retailers get behind this concept, as we have experienced in the past, when the staff have a little fun in their stores by dressing up it really adds to the atmosphere and makes for a great day out,” she says.
“And who doesn’t like a great bargain.”
The day will include face painting and balloon twisters in the street, a free barbecue cooked by the Lions Club of Singleton and entertainment including the fantastic and effervescent Sara de Bono.
Buskers wanting the opportunity to perform during the sale day can contact the Singleton Visitor Information and Enterprise Centre on 6571 5888.
