To make the process more transparent, Diggers have asked Singleton Council to become involved.
The funding was provided through the government’s Club Grants program.
Once the tender is decided, the arrival of the custom-made generator is expected to take up to 12-to-16 weeks.
“It should be here within the year,” Singleton Diggers general manager Gerard McMillan said.
He said that should a flood occur and wipe out power supplies, local residents can converge on Alroy Diggers and find shelter, food and support services.
It could also be shelter for other disasters such as bush fires.
