ARTC construction vehicles damaged the unsealed section of Pothana Lane during the Third Railway Project and have agreed to provide for repairs
while RMS have asked council to decommission the rest stop because of its close proximity to others in the area.
Council is now proposing to use the decommissioned rest stop as a stockpile, with materials that could be used to repair roads in the area.
Some residents expressed concern with this proposal as the area has often been used as an illegal dumping site for building material and value of the rest stop as a quiet space it provided for travellers.
In council’s business report, it states that the area will include tree planting as a screening to minimise visual impact and fencing to stop others from using the site.
Council will accept the ongoing maintenance of Pothana Lane between the old New England Highway and Railway Bridge.
