“I want to give a stronger voice to retailers and make sure they receive support,” she said.
The full-time position at the Singleton Business Chamber is funded by Coal & Allied – and that is driving factor for Jelinda to succeed.
“All the other executive roles are voluntary except for this one, so I’m striving to increase memberships and the chamber’s ability to represent local businesses,” she said.
Jelinda has only been in the job for a week but has met with businesses to hear their concerns, whether they’re members of the chamber or not.
She believes there is great advantage in joining chamber because of its association with the NSW Business Chamber Alliance.
“Through them we can provide legal and marketing advice; there are also a range of different discounts, including for electricity,” she told The Argus.
“Chamber on its website and social media will add your details and wherever possible promote your business.”
Locals can also take advantage of the chamber’s “Hot Desks” – workspaces at their offices that are available for rent and will minimise the cost of overheads.
“It’s a great way for those starting out to save, this is just one of the initiatives aiming to help out the Singleton commercial community,” Jelinda said.
Jelinda is familiar with many of the businesses in Singleton through her time as an advertising representative and manager of the Hunter Valley News.
“I enjoy working with local businesses, and I have working relationships with many people in town,” she said.
Locally, Jelinda is hoping to provide networking opportunities and she’s particularly focused to get the Women in Business group up and running again.
Another challenge is to entice more people attending business chamber monthly meetings so residents can benefit from their great range of speakers.
The next meeting will be on June 9 with the Hunter Research Foundation doing a presentation on Singleton and the Upper Hunter.
“There is a need for accurate information, and this would offer valuable insight for anyone hoping to better cater to their market or take other opportunities,” Jelinda said.
The business development officer is open to feedback and can be easily contacted throughout the week.
Phone Jelinda on 0400 460 412, via email on admin@singletonchamber.org.au or you can meet her at the Singleton Business Chamber offices on the side of the ramp entrance to Singleton Town Square on John Street during weekday hours.
