Now in its fifth year the event is held at ‘Dashville” Lower Belford and started life as the baby brother to the larger GumBall Music festival.
Pigsty kicks off the Singleton Festival and was originally a backyard family and friend’s event, the result of a trip to Ireland by organiser Matt Johnston who wanted to recreate his experience of winter food and great music at his home.
It quickly grew to a music festival, geared towards adults, that is anticipated to attract some 600 people this year.
“Festivals take time to evolve and grow and I believe Singleton Festival, given this is only its third year, is growing into a great event that will put the area on the map,” Matt says.
The Dashville Property is about seven minutes down Kirkton Road, off the New England Highway, at Lower Belford.
With its beautiful bush setting the program kicks off at midday and runs through to 10:00pm, and is a fully licensed and catered for over 18-years event.
Among the acts performing is one of Australia’s best loved pop outfits Ice Cream Hands. Formed in Melbourne in 1992 the band recorded six albums and received two ARIA nominations before dowing tools in 2007.
To commemorate this rare regrouping of the band, after its members including frontman and songwriter Charles Jenkins pursued successful solo careers, Ice Cream Hands will release a remastered vinyl collectors edition of ‘Sweeter than Radio’ album.
L-Fresh the Lion from western Sydney is a hip hop artist making a name for himself on the national stage and joins the acts this year at Pigsty.
Other arts performers include The Delta Lions, Tropical Zombie and Pow Wow plus the usual local gang the Dashville Progress Society.
Tickets are selling fast so head to the www.dashville.com.au to secure your place in the audience.
Pigsty is one of the first events of the 2015 Singleton Festival which incorporates a variety of music, art, food and wine events from July 3 to 26.
The Singleton Festival program will be in the The Singleton Argus this Friday or you can get your copy from the Singleton Visitor Information and Enterprise Centre in Townhead Park.
