Amateurs Chris Duffie and Blake Tanner will appear in the ring for the first time, however it will be a familiar return for Steven Crew who has a professional record of one win-one loss.
While the fights are only exhibitions, their coach Geoff Nichols said he feels sorry for their opponents because his prospects are rearing to go.
“They’re more than ready, they’re fast and dangerous,” he said.
“We’ve ramped up training recently.”
The guys have been hitting the PCYC boxing gym for between six to 12 months and see the exhibition fights as a stepping stone to more competitive bouts.
The guys will be matched up with pugilists with the same experience this weekend; 17-year-old Duffie competes in the 82kg class, 29-year-old Tanner, 69kg; and 37-year-old Crew in 98kg.
Crew said he got into boxing as a kid so he could fight back against his brothers growing up.
Nichols hopes to take the guys and anyone else from the gym around NSW to take part in fights against similar boxers at PCYC clubs or other venues.
“We could potentially secure bouts every fortnight or month,” he said.
“We’re looking for sponsors for when we go away so our local guys can show their skills.”
The gym currently has 15 juniors and 18-to-20 seniors and Nichols said they have a policy of the more the merrier.
“The fight on Saturday will be a great event here,” he told The Argus.
“I hope it gets more people taking up boxing, which is a good for fitness.”
The Grenade Series Fight is sponsored by the Royal Hotel.
