The body of a man that washed up in the Hastings River south of Port Macquarie on the NSW mid north coast has been identified by police.

Late on Thursday night, the man was swept out to sea by the current.
A witness jumped into the river to try to save him, but was not able to do so.
Police have said that the man was a 39-year-old from Lakewood, roughly half an hour south of Port Macquarie.
They said that his family has been notified, but did not disclose his name.
He was discovered on Friday afternoon near Queens Head after police, helicopters and Marine Rescue scoured the nearby area.
Subsequent forensic testing identified him on Saturday after inquiries from Mid North Coast police.
A Royal Lifesaving Society report from December 2014 warned of the dangers of river drownings, noting rivers had been the most deadly waterways in recent years.
