Despite being hard yakka the modest pair admit to loving it, and after a bit of probing Jake reluctantly reveals he has competed at some state titles after learning the art from his Dad.
It is a strenuous sport where competitors race the clock as they attempt to turn one large piece of timber into a number of smaller posts.
This requires some adept work with a chainsaw, and a lot of muscle to drive steel wedges into the cuts to break the timber into smaller posts.
But if you like a punt they just might be the pair to keep your eye on, and open your wallet for, at this year’s Singleton Show.
As the boys will be competing together in the brand new ‘Team Relay Post Splitting Event’ and the pair can be purchased in the Calcutta beforehand on the Saturday night.
Organiser Michelle Richards says the money raised during the auction will be donated to a local charity.
“The relay is replacing the popular Jack’n’Jill charity post splitting competition which was a mixed pairs competition,” she says.
“This year we thought we would try something different.”
It will still start at 7pm on the Saturday night, she says.
The regular rounds of the annual Post Splitting Competition are scheduled for 5.25pm and 8.10pm on Saturday and don’t forget the Wood Chopping which starts earlier at 1pm.
The NAA 2015 Glencore Singleton Show is being held from Friday, September 25 to Saturday 26, with the horse show on Sunday, 27.
