It went right down to the wire during both the regional finals of the 2015 Premier’s Spelling Bee at King Street Public School (KSPS) on Monday with plenty of local students playing their part in the action-packed competition.

And, a winner was not decided until the seventh round of the junior and senior division.
The event is a tradition at the school and KSPS teacher Tabetha Garven says it is always quite impressive how the students handle the pressure.
“None of them crumble despite quite a few doozies being thrown at them,” she explains.
“It really helps to build their resilience.”
Along with the annual public speaking competition recently held at Singleton Heights Public School (SHPS), Ms Garven says.
“The standard was quite high with year three and four students being asked to spell words like inexhaustible and megafauna.”
“And year five and six students getting words like lithosphere, reciprocal and entrepreneur.”
Out of over 80 scheduled participants only the winners will progress to the state final.
The winner of the junior section was Pheobe Wolfgang from Denman Public School and Zoe Tudor from Branxton Public School took out the senior division.
However, if they can’t attend runner up Ruby Clayworth from Singleton Public School and Grace Saxton from Rutherford Public School will be called on.
Local students who competed include: Will Considine(SHPS) , Jackson Paniora, Bradley Flay, Charlie Symons, Jordan Webb (SPS), Natalie Andrews, Leena Shahwali , Samantha McKenzie, (KSPS), Julian Steward, Christine and Naomi Paschke, Alex Staffa (Broke), Allen Lamb, Sia Emmett, Zarlie Gittoes, Alex Stafford (Branxton) Zander Williams, Lily Stafford, Tala Padgett (Kirkton), Raoul Lambert, Murray Quigley, Asha Lane, Jasmin Robinson (Mount Pleasant), Jake McAndrew, Emily Badior and Wilson Brock.
