Kimberley Pearce hit the mark to claim the 2014 honour from a talented field, which included Darcie Bell (futsal/soccer), Darcy Gilson (swimming), Flynn Lefmann (athletics), Lillian Mills (show horse riding), Darcy Ryan (swimming), Tim Ryan (rugby union/athletics) and Ryan Smith (motorbike riding).
“People should nominate now,” she told The Argus.
“I certainly don’t regret entering the competition.
“In fact, it took me two years to win it.
“But, the award looks amazing on my resume.
“I encourage everyone to give it a go, don’t wait.”
Nominations are now open.
Singleton Sports Star committee chairperson Denis Pearce said awards were available in six categories – Junior Sports Star, Senior Sports Star, Over 35 Sports Star, Junior Team Sports Stars, Senior Team Sports Stars and Contribution to Sport.
“We’ve had an impressive list of winners in recent times, including motorcycle sensation Toby Price,” he said.
“The Singleton Sports Council hosts the annual ceremony to acknowledge the outstanding efforts of local sporting people.
“Nominations are called for from the community and sporting groups to recognise both athletes and officials who meet the criteria set down in these procedures.
“The Sports Star awards are a celebration of the role sport plays in our community and the acknowledgement of excellence.
“The concept started in 1980 and hundreds of locals have been honoured.”
