However, we must remember that Friday was just a sample of what is to come in summer.
Six ladies and three gents enjoyed these pleasant conditions at the Singleton Croquet Club.
The courts are in excellent condition and we enjoyed the friendly company of our hosts, members of the Howe Park Tennis Club.
Seven games were played.
Four of which were very long with two giving a 7-6 result and another couple with a 7-5 score.
The capricious breeze played a part in affecting some long shots and, thus, extending the length of the games.
It is good to see more players attempting the jump shots and getting the ball to jump high enough, but they now have to master the direction of the ball.
The scores were:
Carolyn and Alec defeated Robyn and Val 7-6; Robyn and Ivan defeated Maureen and Alec 7-4; Maureen and Miriam defeated Daisy and Ivan 7-6; Ivan and Alec defeated Daisy and Miriam 7-5; Daisy and Bob defeated Robyn and Miriam 7-4; Val and Carolyn defeated Alec and Ivan 7-4; Carolyn and Bob defeated Val and Daisy 7-5.
Best individual scores, when averaged over the number of games played with different partners, were:
Ladies: Carolyn with 3 games averaged 7; Val with 3 games averaged 6 and Daisy with 4 games averaged 5.8.
Gents: Bob with 2 games averaged 7; Ivan with 4 games averaged 6 and Alec with 4 games averaged 5.5.
Have you noticed the best book sales in bookshops are the cook books and the diet books? The cook books tell you how to prepare food and the diet books tell you why you shouldn’t eat it. Our conversation at croquet frequently centres on cooking, but never on dieting.
Remember, Saturdays from 1pm, croquet would welcome you at Howe Park.
