The objective of the concept, the brainchild of principal Cameron Upcroft, was for staff to sit with families and showcase the many programs and initiatives that have been introduced into the school – and will continue in 2016.
“The afternoon was his [Cameron’s] vision and it was an extremely rewarding exercise for everyone,” KSPS’s Cindy Judge said.
“Workstations were set up throughout the hall displaying programs such as Accelerated Literacy, TEN (Targeting Early Numeracy) and TOWN (Taking Off With Numeracy) Mathematics, NAIDOC initiatives and our technology program.
“Parents also had the opportunity to see the new syllabus and talk to staff about teacher accreditation, PBL (Positive Behaviour for Learning) and school leadership.
“We have had fantastic feedback with all parents (old and new) acknowledging that they learnt something during the afternoon.
“Some of the comments we received included ‘I think it was a great opportunity to find out what is going on in our school and goals have been set for the future’, and ‘This went beyond what the school offers. I now understand the process of learning and the ‘why’ and ‘how’ it happens in the classroom’.
“They also thought it was a wonderful insight into why KSPS teachers are so well-regarded.
“There was much praise for the professional learning undertaken by teachers and the programs that they have implemented to complement this learning.
“We thank all the families who attended and, of course, our wonderful staff for their enthusiasm and professionalism.
“This will no doubt become a regular event we will repeat in 2016.”
