Brendan Chalker, Blake Trees and Kobe Davis have been offered spots on the team after performing exceptionally well in last year’s football season.
The local talents were selected based on their previous performance, rather than having to trial for a position on the team.
“I was very excited to get selected,” says full back, Brendan Chalker.
“I’ve only been playing for two years, so it’s a great opportunity.”
“They had selectors at a few of last year’s games watching us play, and even the coach at one stage,” Blake tells the Argus.
The talented trio has formerly represented Singleton and Group 21, now turning their sights to the Chargers U15’s squad.
“It’s a lot of fun and it’s a great opportunity for us to improve our skills,” says half back Davis.
“We work on our fitness and the basic principles and skills involved in the game.”
The boys began training for the development squad early November last year, and train two hours every Tuesday and Thursday. This is no doubt a busy schedule for the three, who are currently studying in Year 9 and 10.
“Getting into the development squad really opens doors to get into other teams, like the Harold Matthews under 16’s team,” says Davis.
“They contract 11 players from this development squad, so that’s something to work towards.”
Training continues for the boys until mid-March and after a short break it resumes through until June.
A Gala day in Wyong this June will be next on the horizon for the talented trio, training hard to improve their play and open doors for their footballing futures.
