At about 10.20pm on Saturday, the Westpac Rescue Helicopter (WRH) was called to the event to attend to a 21-year-old suffering burns to his back and legs.
A spokesperson for the WRH service reported a gas bottle had been thrown on a fire.
“The incident occurred at the Tuff Truck Challenge area at Milbrodale,” he said.
“The patient was flown to John Hunter Hospital in a stable condition.”
A St John’s Ambulance crew, Singleton division, also worked on the man for more than half an hour beforehand.
“The patient actually walked into our post,” a spokesman said.
“We had to use 10 litres of water on him.
“This bloke could have died if we weren’t there.”
