The winners of the Singleton Mayoral Scholarship program were announced by Singleton Mayor John Martin at a special presentation at the Singleton Visitor Information and Enterprise Centre last night.

There were four winners of major scholarships each receiving $2000 and two winners of the minor scholarships each receiving $500.
Scholarships can be spent in a variety of ways to facilitate further education and study including fees, resources, travel and accommodation.
More than 70 applications were received across six categories in 2016. The winners, their categories and areas of study are:
• Patrick MacPherson – University – Bachelor of Design/Architecture
• Ethan Vinson – Vocational - Automotive Electrical Trade Certificate
• Abbie Caelli – Apprenticeship - Automotive Administrations
• Claire McHattie – High School – Higher School Certificate
• Tiffany Hayward – Agriculture – Certificate IV Veterinary Nursing
• Lauren Howard-Hickey – Hospitality – VET Hospitality
The Singleton Mayoral Scholarship Program has awarded more than $140,000 in scholarships since its inception in 2009 and celebrates both academic achievement and community contribution.
Singleton Mayor John Martin says he was impressed by the high caliber of applicants this year. “The scholarship winners embody the very best that our community has to offer and we are proud to support them in their academic endeavors,” he says.
“I congratulate all of our deserving winners and wish all of our applicants the very best with their studies.”
Major sponsors of the scholarship program expressed pride in being involved in this program Mount Thorley Warkworth General Manager Mark Rodgers says since its inception, Coal & Allied has had an association with the mayoral scholarship program, which encourage and support local students to pursue their career pathways.
“The presentation itself provides an insight into the career aspirations of our young people and it leaves you inspired by their achievements,” he says.
Ashton Coal Manager Environment and Community Digby Short says “Ashton is proud to support such an important scholarship program that recognises the valuable contribution of individuals making a positive difference within the Singleton community”.
Bloomfield Collieries’ John Richards says it is a long standing policy of The Bloomfield Group to support the advancement of youth in the region. “The Singleton Mayoral Scholarship program is a perfect vehicle for our company to achieve that goal,” he says.
A spokesperson for Hunter Resource Recovery says corporate Australia needs to support the youth of our community by providing the building blocks for a positive future and assist those most deserving to help make a more positive impact upon their community.

The Singleton Mayoral Scholarship is an annual program open to all Singleton Local Government Area residents intending to study that year. Applications for the 2017 program will open at the end of 2016.
