The application to remove these trees was lodged with the Office of Environment and Heritage last year and approval was granted in November 2015.
However, the approval under Section 91 of the Threatened Species Conservation Act is specific regarding when the Council can undertake this work and that is during the inactive period of the flying fox breeding cycle.
Council planned to complete this work between April and June this year, subject to development consent.
Having now gained development approval, Council has scheduled these works to take place on the evenings of May 10 and 11.
This application and subsequent approval was granted prior to the recent damage that has been caused to the trees in Burdekin Park.
However, approvals are not easy to obtain and the Council needs to be using these approvals so they don’t jeopardise future applications.
It is anticipated that the work will be completed between 7pm and 11pm and this may cause some disturbance to nearby residents.
The Singleton Council apologise for any inconvenience this may cause.
