Students from 32 schools braved the windy weather to hear speakers talk about exam preparation and HSC marking.
Head teacher of history at Warners Bay High School and first time speaker Mr Peter Dewell says the Seminar day is a great opportunity for students to gain an insight into what the HSC exams will be like.
“Within the classroom students spend so much time on content but it’s important for them to also attribute time to exam preparation,” he says.
“It’s great for students to hear from others about preparation to reinforce its importance.”
Head of English at Singleton High School Mr David Welsh also ran a seminar, offering students words of comfort and an understanding of the angst they all experience in the lead up to their final exams.
“It’s important to give students reassurance that they can achieve success in the HSC,” Mr Welsh says.
“The key benefit of the day is to reinforce that what they learn in the classroom is what is needed for the exams.”
Steve Plummer of Ryde Secondary College praised the staff and students of Singleton High School for their organisation.
“In the many years I’ve been coming to the seminar day, I have never had any negative experiences,” he says.
“The students really appreciate the day because when they see other schools they realise they aren’t alone.”
Mr Welsh says much of the day is attributed to the organisation and hard work of Singleton High School’s deputy principal Ian Skilton.
“I could not praise Ian Skilton enough for the magnificent job he has done in organising the day each year.”
With the HSC exams fast approaching, senior students will begin studying hard for their final months of schooling.
