Singleton Public School students were being transformed into tennis pros on Wednesday June 1, as the Hot Shots tennis academy ran learning workshops throughout the day.

The Hot Shots program, which is run by Tennis Australia, is encouraging fitness and development among Year 3 and 4 students all while having fun and playing tennis.
Students are able to learn techniques about holding a racquet, hitting the ball and playing the game from Hunter Tennis Academy, Tennis Australia and Tennis NSW mentors.
Tennis Australia has supplied the resources for the school program through the Sporting Schools initiative.
All public schools wishing to get on board with the program are able to apply for a grant through Sporting Schools.
Jonathan Russell of Singleton Public School says the kids’ response to the program has been great.
“The program has been really positive so far and there has been plenty of laughs and high fives from the kids which is what we want to see,” he says.
“The equipment is targeted towards the kids, so it makes it easier for them to get the hang of the game.”
From these workshops a team of 18 will be chosen from each school to head to a zone day as a part of the Red Ball competition and the Todd Woodbridge Cup.
