For the third year running they are the overall champions scoring an impressive 153 points.
With two team members, Taylor Giggins (17years) and Aidan Sargent (14) named aged champions.
The team’s efforts were recognised at a school assembly on Wednesday with the students presenting the plaque to principal, Jo Gray to display.
More than 160 students from the Hunter, Tamworth and Central Coast all participated in the third annual Cessnock School Horse Sports Carnival at Cessnock Showground. Versing against more than 60 other schools and coming up on top by far.
Supervising teacher, Mrs Greenhall told the students that the riders have been attending most equestrian events throw out the year. Beating Dungog High School, who scored 99.5 points compared to our 153 points. On that day we also got multiple first, second, thirds, fourths and fifths.
“It was a resounding result’s and we often come quite close for a lot of these sports.”
“Another thing about this trophy that I didn’t know until the Thursday before the Friday. Is that only one school is written on it, Singleton High School has won this trophy three times, so that got to become a tradition. We are going to continue winning it every year.”
Team member, Taylor Giggins says Horse Sports is a very competitive and dominated by girls with fewer boys involved in the sport.
Yet going against this trend Singleton still had two boys come out on top, Aidan Sargent and Thomas Donehue.
Taylor Giggins, is still enjoying horse sports with her horse Freckles by her side.
Growing up with her parents also being into horse riding and living on a farm meant Taylor loved such a sport. It isn’t just a sport to Taylor, but it is just like walking for her.
Another local school also did well on the day, King Street Public School has done an outstanding job, placing runner-up in the primary school teams.
Thomas Donehue, will hopefully be part of the next generation to win the trophy for SHS. He has done outstanding for his age being the champion (12 years).
