The local projects are among 14 works planned in mining affected communities in NSW now undergoing scrutiny for the final round of funding.
Singleton Council will be hoping it gets the green light to allow the continuation of their town centre revilatisation which this time includes replacing the roundabout at John and Campbell streets with traffic lights.
Singleton Council’s Director of Corporate and Community Services Group Anthony Egan says the conversion of the roundabout to signals will greatly improve pedestrian and cycle access at the intersection.
“The change was a recommendation in the Singleton Town Centre Access Traffic and Parking Management Study and Plan, prepared by Stapleton Transportation and Planning as part of the Town Centre Master Plan, adopted by Singleton Council in July 2013,” he says.
“The plan is designed to manage current and future traffic flows to achieve a higher amenity, safer, more pedestrian-friendly and accessible Town Centre.
“All modes of transport, including walking and cycling were considered in the plan, as were accommodating the needs of children, the elderly of our community and those with mobility challenges.”
Council’s other project is improved heavy vehicle access to Mt Thorley Industrial Park which is located at the intersection of Putty Road and the Golden Highway just to the west of town.
