The awards night will celebrate the achievements of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islanders young and old in all areas of society including education, art, industry, community, sport and youth.
Categories include:
- Apprentice of the Year
- Artist of the Year
- Community Contribution Award
- Elder of the Year (both male and female award)
- Professional Achievement,
- Scholar of the Year Junior (both in male and female)
- Scholar of the Year Senior (both male and female)
- Sportsperson of the Year Junior and Senior
- Volunteer of the Year
- Youth of the Year (ages 16-21 yrs old), and
- Posthumous award.
Chairperson, Jean Hands of the Upper Hunter NAIDOC Week Awards Working Group says this is an event not to be missed.
“It is exciting that the Upper Hunter NAIDOC Awards are being held for the first time ever in Singleton,” she said.
“This project has been something we have been working towards for a while now and we are incredibly grateful to all of the sponsors and working committees who have come on board to assist us in this event.”
The awards ceremony, which kicks off from 6.30pm, at Club Singleton, 50 Pitt Street Singleton will also feature live entertainment from a band, didgeridoo, and a dance performance from Singleton High School Aboriginal dance troupe.
There will also be cultural immersion activities including a history reading as the community comes together to recognise and celebrate the contribution of the local Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islanders community to the Upper Hunter.
Tickets, which include a three-course meal, cost $20 in advance or $25 at the door, but space is limited and bookings are essential.

NAIDOC is a celebration of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander cultures and an opportunity to recognise the contributions of Indigenous Australians.
Activities take place across the nation in the first week of July each year.
